Trough Records proudly announces the release of ALL MY ANGELS PAST (Catalogue No. TRCP 1310), the latest
collection of heartfelt and heart-wrenching music from singer/songwriter DAVID PIPER.
Wasting no time in following up on his acclaimed 2000 release, "Lucky Penny" (TRCP 1304), Piper has once again
emerged with a group of songs of high intensity and deep personal exploration, life lessons and more than a few warily
humorous asides. Under the steady hand of producer/arranger Tom Buffum, Piper's distinctive acoustic guitar stylings and
his rich, soaring tenor drive this emotional--and emotionally satisfying--album.

The struggle to reconcile the sins and regrets of the past with the harsh reality of the present is a constant theme in the songs on ALL MY ANGELS PAST. The opening cut, "That's How," begins without instrumental introduction, launching straight into Piper's unique, brooding lyrics. Tell me about the great ones from long ago/How they made their mark on you/Speak to me of olden days when you were young/When you go there, I go too, he sings, inviting the listener into his passionate and challenging journey of self-exploration. The haunting title track, which pays homage to lost friends and loved ones, shines with an unforgettable melody and a comforting message of timelessness. The blues-driven, angry "Musta Gone Wrong" speaks of a family's "black sheep" and a nephew's struggle to battle his own demons so that he doesn't make the same mistakes.
Romance---its joys, sorrows, obsessions and regrets, also play a large part in Piper's music. Such songs as "Jacaranda," "In
This World," "Heroes and Princesses" and the stunningly beautiful "Jathida" capture moments of raw, unbridled passion
and pain that cut to the very core of human connection. "Try Love Instead," co-written by Piper and producer Buffum, is a
simple, straightforward admission of romantic guilt and a plea for reconciliation. Simultaneously funny and slyly dead-on,
"Date with a Rattlesnake" rocks and sways to a bluesy rhythm as Piper's world-weary vocal sings of the dangers of the wild
side.
ALL MY ANGELS PAST also features songs which demonstrate David Piper's passion for justice and peace in a world
gone mad. "Blood of our Mother" is based on the true story of Terry Freitas, who was captured, tortured and killed while
working as an activist for the native U'Wa people in Colombia. "From a Soldier Dying Young" tells the tale of a Union
soldier who dies in the Andersonville prison camp in 1863. And the hilarious---and deadly serious---"Missiles, Mortars
and Rockets" lampoons modern-day warfare and the politicians who wage it with country-fried, kick-out-the-jams gusto.

Joined once again by a stellar array of supporting musicians, Piper and Buffum have used them all to stunning effect. And Piper's amazing vocal range captures every subtlety of emotion with deftness and grace. All in all, DAVID PIPER/ALL MY ANGELS PAST is simply one of the finest and most refreshingly unique CDs to come out of the Los Angeles "Acoustic Underground" this year.
